An Eye for an Eye?

Does the law, as it is right now, not punish criminals with the just punishment? Should punishment be harsher and really send a message to all people in order to make them think twice about a crime they might be pondering about? I think so.  The law as it is is not harsh enough on the violent crimes in our countries. Each criminal should be punished to the extent of the crime in which they commit.  For example, for murdering someone, the murderer should be put to death.  Which brings me to to capital punishment.
Capital Punishment is just in every aspect.  When a person murders another person, the murderer is taking away a person's right to live. Therefore, the murderers right to live should be unwillingly stripped from him just as he did to the victim.  Life imprisonment with opportunities for parole is not a just punishment.  The fear a prisoner faces while awaiting death is part of the punishment and when death is finally dealt the punishment has been served. More over, people who torture others should be tortured.  Yes it seems harsh, but it will send a message to criminals that if you torture someone you in return will be tortured.
Harsher laws will deter some criminals from committing terrible crimes and the country might be just a little more safer as a result.

Many people would rather die the serve a life in prison. Prison can often be worse than death. You speak like prison isn't that bad, but it is no pleasant life. I have known two people who have been in prison for years at a time and one of them admitted to having thoughts of suicide. None of these people were murderers, but prison changed the way they looked at freedom, and the way they looked at life. When one of them was released from prison, they came out a completely different person than I ever knew. He was humbled and cured of corruption as a result of jail.

Secondly, if you believe that murder is wrong, then the death penalty is not justified by anything. Mass murder is just about the only thing that calls for the death penalty. Even then, however, it doesn't accomplish a damn thing. It doesn't send a message to criminals or terrorists. People who believe in mass murder will not hesitate simply because of a harsher penalty.
